Making Public Comments During City Meetings

 

The City of Del Rey Oaks' Meeting Agendas include opportunities for members of the public to address the Council Members, Planning Commissioners, and Committee Members.  Use this checklist to help prepare and deliver public comments.

Public Comment

The portion of the Meeting Agenda following Roll Call which provides an opportunity for members of the public to address Council Members, Planning Commissioners and Committee Members on matters NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA, including announcements related to community events, programs or recognition.  This section is limited to a maximum of THREE MINUTES per speaker.  The Brown Act (Open Meetings Law) does not allow Council Members, Planning Commissioners or Committee Members to take action on an item not listed on the agenda.  Individuals are limited to ONE APPEARANCE during this section.

 

Public Hearing / General Business

The public is invited to speak following the staff presentation of each item.  Speakers are allotted THREE MINUTES per speaker for each item.  An on-screen timer will display the remaining time.  For telephone participants, the Meeting Host will advise when 30 seconds remain.  The Council Members, Planning Commissioners or Committee Members may ask follow-up questions.

 

Request to Speak

 

Members of the public should use the RAISE HAND function to request to speak (Windows = Alt + Y, Mac = Option + Y, Telephone = *9). Please wait to be called on by the Meeting Host.

 

Speak

 

Please speak clearly into your microphone.  Speakers are allotted THREE MINUTES per speaker for each item. An on-screen timer will display the remaining time.  If you exceed your allotted time, the Meeting Host will ask you to stop and/or mute you after three minutes.
